Tobias Schaffner specialises in the conduct of civil and criminal proceedings as well as in debt enforcement and bankruptcy matters. A good deal of his practice is devoted to the representation of victims of financial crime with a cross-border element (asset recovery). Tobias Schaffner also has several years of experience in the area of international arbitration as well as in the area of financial market supervisory law.

In the area of asset recovery, Tobias Schaffner has been instructed in a wide range of offences. These include cases of fraud, notably Ponzi schemes, penny stock fraud, romance scams, and online investment fraud, as well as cases of embezzlement, churning and money laundering. He also has extensive experience in obtaining freezing injunctions (attachments, protection of matrimonial property) and in the recognition and enforcement of foreign judgements, arbitration awards and bankruptcy decrees. In addition, Tobias Schaffner also acts as a litigator in commercial and contract matters, including shareholder disputes and cases of director liability, banking law, employment law and tenancy law.

Prior to joining Niedermann Attorneys at Law, Tobias Schaffner was Counsel at Knoetzl Haugeneder Netal in Vienna, where he worked on several international arbitration cases, and then Senior Associate and later Partner at two Zurich law firms.

Tobias Schaffner is co-founder and co-director of Netzwerk Privatklägerschaft NPK, a network dedicated to strengthening the legal representation of victims in criminal proceedings. Together with a senior public prosecutor and a renowned criminal defence lawyer, he teaches a Master's course in criminal procedure and advocacy at the University of Zurich. Tobias Schaffner is fluent in German, English and French. He received his law degree from the University of Geneva in 2004 and holds an LL.M. (Hons.) and a Ph.D. (Yorke Prize) from the University of Cambridge.
